Dial-Up Lock Me™ FAQ
- Q: What is Dial-Up Lock Me?
- A: Dial-Up Lock Millennium Edition is a client/server tool that
enables to set user-level security for the Internet Dial-Up (RAS)
connections. Using Dial-Up Lock Me you can limit incoming and outgoing
traffic, limit time online and set allowed/denied time periods for any
user on a Windows 95/98/Me. It enhances the standard Windows security by
allowing you to control the Internet access via modems (standard, ISDN,
etc.). Dial-Up Lock Me runs transparently in the background and is invisible
to users. Dial-Up LockMe automatically disconnects users that exceed allowed
time or traffic. Remote control is also available.
- Q: What limitations are there in an unregistered
version?
- A: There are no functional limitations for an unregistered
version and you may use Dial-Up Lock Me (during the evaluation period) as a
fully registered program but only on one computer. An unregistered
version of Dial-Up Lock Me displays nag screens.
- Q: Is it safe to use my credit card on the internet?
- A: Yes. All our registrations use SECURE protocols. It
is impossible for a third party to intercept your credit card
information. We also offer alternative ordering methods (such as order
by fax, toll-free phone, bank transfer, etc.).
- Q: I bought the Single license of Dial-Up Lock Me. Could I
install Dial-Up Lock Me on all the computers in my network?
- A: You may install Dial-Up Lock Me Service on only a single
computer but Dial-Up Lock Me Manager can be installed on any number of your
computers. The Single license gives you the right to use Dial-Up Lock Me on
one computer so you are able to control access on only one computer. If
you wish to use Dial-Up Lock Me on several computers, you need to purchase
the appropriate number of Single licenses.
For example, if you wish
to control Dial-Up connections on: - one computer - you need to
purchase one Single license ($30); - two computers - you need to
purchase two Single licenses ($60); - 45 computers in the one domain
- you need to purchase 45 Single licenses ($1350), but you can buy the
Site license ($500) and you'll be able to install Dial-Up Lock Me on all the
computers in the one domain (one Site license per one domain). Moreover,
you will need to purchase additional licenses only for other domains so
if you decide to add computers to the same domain, you won't pay for the
extra licenses! - all the computers - you can purchase the World
license ($800) and install Dial-Up Lock Me on all the computers in your
network.
- Q: Is it possible to install Dial-Up Lock Me automatically (without any user intervention)?
- A: Yes. Launch Dial-Up Lock Me setup with the /s parameter to
install Dial-Up Lock Me without user intervention. This provides an install
that can be used from within a batch file.
There is a special
configuration file for silent setup: setup.ini. With this file,
you can customize the Dial-Up Lock Me installation parameters. For example:
- "Install" parameters:
- Service - Dial-Up Lock Me Service and its related files will
be installed
- Manager - Dial-Up Lock Me Manager and its related files will
be installed
- Documents - documentation (readme.txt,
register.txt) will be installed
- To specify a destination directory for Dial-Up Lock Me, you can
supply the parameter InstallDir
- If you have the registration key-file for Dial-Up Lock Me, you can
specify a directory with this file in the parameter
RegFileDir
- "Misc" parameters:
- Run - this parameter is used to launch an application or
execute a batch file after a successful install.
- Q: Dial-Up Lock Me Service stopped a few seconds after
launch or it didn't launch. What's wrong?
- A: There are a few possible reasons. An error may have
occured during the processing of the Dial-Up Lock Me Service launch. Or
Dial-Up Lock Me can't be launched because you are attempting to use an
unregistered copy in your network. Or you don't have enough licenses to
launch another copy of Dial-Up Lock Me Service.
In any case, you can get
more information from the dulmesrv.err file or dulmesrv.rpt file, located in your
Windows/System directory.
